THERE WILL BE NO AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM FEBRUARY 7, 2013. THAT DAY IS PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCE DAY SO TEACHERS WILL BE UNAVAILABLE FOR AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM.

The Oklahoma Department of Education awarded Porum Public Schools After School Enrichment Program a STEM grant. STEM is the acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. The grant provides funds for basic math fact fluency building tutoring. Kim Hall and Lauren Goekler use the Great Leaps math program to increase students' fluency with basic facts which will allow the students to be able to concentrate on higher order math concept development.
The grant also provides funds for Lego Simple Machines and Robotics workshops for students. Derrick Bush will use the Lego programs in his after school Science Enrichment classes to build student understanding of physical science concepts.
Students at Porum Public Schools have benefited from a 21st Century grant for the past five years. This grant funds the after school enrichment program. The life span of the grant is five years so it is time to apply for renewal. Parents, community members, and any other interested people are invited to participate in committee meetings. Meetings have been held December 14, 2012 and January 21, 2013. The next meeting will be February 15, 2013 at 9:30 AM in the school cafeteria. If you have ideas please attend!
During the second semester boys in grades 1-5 enrolled in Porum Public Schools After School Enrichment Program have the opportunity to participate in Boy Scouts. Cindy Tankersly, a den leader with the Indian Nations Boy Scout Council, teaches the class. Boys learn citizenship, first aid, and a variety of other skills. They will earn badges and have the option to participate in Boy Scout camp.
From 3:15-5:00 the After School Program office will be located in the elementary school workroom. If you need to reach Cyanne Williams or other staff members during this time period, please call 918-484-5121 X 233.
Remember: Only adults whose names appear on your child's enrollment form may pick up your child from the After School Program unless you send written permission.
Please make every effort to make arrangements for your child's plans for going home before the school day begins. Last minute changes to a child's schedule should be avoided unless an emergency arises.
The After School Program will begin Tuesday, September 4, 2012.
All students will be dismissed at 4:45 PM this year. Car riders need to be picked up at 4:45 PM.
Classes will be offered Monday through Thursday. There will be no Friday classes this year.
Porum Public Schools After School Enrichment Program
After School Enrichment Program is offering individual and small group tutoring to students identified by their classroom teacher as needing additional support to be successful in school. Jennifer Baker, Vicky Hokit, Jessica Madewell, Melissa Smith, and Valerie Barnes are working with second grade students to increase their reading and math skills. Kim Hall and Lauren Goekler are working with students in grades 3 and up to improve math skills. Ask your students about this help!
The primary goal of the After School Enrichment Program is to provide enriching activities to enhance student learning. The teachers plan lessons to help the students learn, so please do not pick up your child early from the program. If you have other commitments that require your child to leave before 4:45, please do not send them to After School Program that day.
